SALLY Armitage finished in a superb first place at the Brighouse 10km race in a fantastic time of 39:23 at the weekend.

This road race, organised Run Able, is a flat course, apart from a sharp incline at the beginning to get to the Elland Road stretch and at the end, away from the canal path to the finish line. Armitage ran this race over a minute faster than when she had previously done it in it 2021 and she led from the 4km mark, crossing the line in front of everyone - women and men.

This weekend saw the staging of the challenging Burnsall Trail Half Marathon.

This is the first race in the Due North Race Series and takes in several sections of the Dales Way footpath with around 500m of ascent. This run has a great mix of both straightforward and challenging terrain.

Six Harriers took part with Steven Bysouth leading the Harriers home, Steven finishing in a superb ninth place in 1:44:31. He was followed by Rob Cunningham who finished 20th in 1:47:32 and the third Harrier home was Tom Razazan in 1:57:54.

Catherine Crawley was the first Ilkley lady home, in a great time of 2:00:35, with Catherine finishing second in her age category. Mike Williams and Jill Ezard also had excellent runs.

Race number three of the Bunny Run series, organised by Wharfedale Harriers, took place this week, with both juniors and seniors racing together on a 2.7-mile circuit on Penistone Hill.

Junior Harrier Archie Budding was the first Harrier home again this week, Archie running the course in in 16:44, over a minute faster than his attempt last week. His Dad Rob was the first Senior Harrier home in a time of 22:43. Hot on his heels was Malcolm Pickering in 22:59, with Malcolm finishing first in his age category.

Nicola Budding led the Ilkley ladies home in 28:55, followed by Sally Pickering in 30:30.

Overseas, Helen Waddington took part in the 126th staging of the Boston Marathon, the world’s oldest marathon and New England’s most widely viewed sporting event.

This challenging course involves an initial downhill, followed by four climbs from mile 16, including Heartbreak Hill, an ascent over 0.4 miles between miles 20 & 21 near Boston College. Helen ran this in a superb 3:43:38, a personal best time for Helen for a marathon.

The weekly timed parkrun events remained as popular as ever this week, with lots of Harriers participating.

Many Harriers finished with top ten placings including: Junior Harrier Jake Norris who was the second finisher at the Robert’s Park parkrun in 18:01, with Nick Kealey third finisher at the same parkrun in 18:11, Steven Gott was the third finisher at the Chevin Forest parkrun in a time of 19:06, Tom Lambe finished in third place at the Horton Park parkrun in a time of 20:49, Michael Abrams-Cohen finished in fourth place at the Fountains Abbey parkrun in 18:26, Tom Worboys was the seventh finisher at the Sheffield Castle parkrun in a great time of 21:42 and Adam Gerrish was the eighth finisher at the Chevin Forest parkrun in 21:16.

Oscar Street, along with Paula & Dave Reynier, remain commited to running at the weekly Bradford parkrun, with all three finishing with great times and placings this week. Gaynor Coy was the sixth lady to finish at the Potternewton parkrun in Leeds.
