CITY'S swimmers had a successful Yorkshire Championships coming home with ten medals, seventeen club records, five national qualification times and a plethora of final placings.

In the boys’ events, Ilkley’s thirteen-year-old Harry Schmidt who finished in the medals with a bronze in the 200m backstroke and he also went on to claim three further top ten finishes.

Other top ten finishes went to Robbie Ambler (Ilkley) (3) Freddy Dean (4), Jakub, Marszewski (Ilkley) (2), Cameron Mander (1) and Ciara O’Carroll (1). Four of the clubs’ medley and freestyle teams also featured in the top ten finishes.

Swimming in the sixteen years age group it was Gina Warrior who claimed City’s highest placings with gold in the 50m backstroke in a time of 31.02. This time was both a club record and a British Championship qualifying time.

She also claimed silver in the 100m backstroke in a time of 1.07.02 which was also a club record, bronze in the 2000m event again in a new Club record time of 2.25.82 and seventh in the 200m individual medley.

Next in line was fourteen year old Sophia Gledhill with silver in the 100m and 200m backstroke, bronze in the 200m individual medley, 50m and 100m butterfly. She added to her tally with four further top ten finishes.

Alex Dunn (Guiseley) swam a well paced race to claim silver in the girls fifteen years 50m breaststroke and also finished with four other top ten finishes.

In the girls seventeen years and over Rebecca Dunn (Guiseley) claimed a fourth and two fifth places in times of 2.43.64, 35.38 and 1.16.91 respectively in the 200m, 100m and 50m breaststroke. Her 100m time was a new club record and the 50m and 200m times were both club records and national qualifying times.

Frazer Buxton broke the club record in the seventeen years and over 50m freestyle in a time of 24.84 and his time was also a National Qualifying time. In the same age group 50m breaststroke event Cameron Mander swam to a national qualifying time of 31.50.

All swimmers train on the Bradford Aquatics Competition programme under the guidance of coaches Andy Pearce and Sarah Fisher.
