ILKLEY Town are sitting precariously above the NWCFL First Division North relegation zone after their latest defeat, 2-1 at home to West Yorkshire rivals Campion.

The Baht'atters dominated the opening half-hour, with Kevin Gonzalez firing one just over the bar, Tom Smith having a goal ruled out for a foul in the build-up, and Macauley Smith's cross almost sneaking in.

But Campion grew into the game, with Jake Maltby's shot whistling inches wide and Aidan Kirby smashing one over the bar when he should have done better from a few yards out.

Maltby broke the deadlock two minutes before the break, driving forward before crashing a long-range strike into the top corner.

Brad Emmerson made a brilliant double save from Gonzalez on the stroke of half-time to keep Campion in front.

Playing into the wind, Ilkley soon conceded a second at the start of the second half.

Kirby rose highest to head a corner back across goal and into the net to double the Bradford side's lead.

Smith was denied by Emmerson soon after that, with the keeper plucking an effort out of the top corner.

But he was helpless to stop George Gomersall pulling a goal back for the Baht'atters, when he drilled a free-kick under the wall and into the bottom corner.

Gomersall, Smith and Harry Brown all came close to finding the equaliser, but they failed to get it, meaning Ilkley now sit just two points above the relegation zone, while Campion moved six points clear of the drop.

Ilkley will hope to bounce back in another West Yorkshire derby this coming weekend, when they visit fellow strugglers Steeton.
