THE Yorkshire Cross Country Championships took place at the weekend, the venue being Kiveton Park south of Sheffield.

This park and woodland area, created out of a former colliery, provided runners with mud, a hill and a water jump to contend with.

Ilkley Harriers had a great turnout at this event with 16 Harriers participating. Jemina Elgood continued her superb form to take first place in the senior women’s race. Jemina ran this in a time of 25.46.

Next Harrier home was Rachel Carter in 31:45, followed by Fay Walsh in 33:51. Tom Adams led the men home in the senior men’s race, finishing in eighth place, Tom running the course in a time of 31:19. He was followed by Dominic Coy in 32:27, Dominic finishing 22nd overall. Third Harrier home was Cameron Reilly in 34:11.

The Temple Newsam Ten also took place this weekend. This ten-mile multi-terrain race around the Temple Newsam Estate in Leeds is organised by St. Theresa’s Athletic Club.

Three Harriers took part; Danny Thompson finished in a superb 24th place running the race in a time of 1:09:09. Kay Pearce also ran, completing the run in a time of 1:24:18. Both Danny and Kay finished fifth in their respective age categories. Charlotte Smithson also ran and finished in a time of 1:44:42.

Ilkley Harriers continued to have a great presence at the weekly timed parkrun events this weekend. Jane McCarthy was the first lady to finish at the Bradford parkrun, Jane running this in 20:21. Helen Waddington was second lady to finish at the Fountain’s Abbey parkrun, Helen finishing in a time of 22:34, her personal best time for a parkrun.

Michael Abrams-Cohen was second finisher at the Robert’s Park parkrun. He ran this in 17:48, his fastest parkrun to date. Harrier Kyle Bethell was fourth finisher at the Cliffe Castle parkrun and junior Harriers, James Lee and Harry Stead had top ten placings at the Bradford and Heslington parkruns respectively.
