ILKLEY'S Tom Adams secured victory at the Hurst Green Turkey Trot at the weekend.

This five-mile trail race takes place at Hurst Green near Clitheroe and involves an ascent of Longridge Fell, a spectacle, with seasonal fancy dress being worn by many competitors. Tom stormed to the finish in a time of 28:51.

The annual Stoop Fell Race took place this weekend, which attracted a good turnout of Ilkley Harriers.

This 4.9 mile fell race, with 700ft of ascent starts at Penistone Hill Country Park, climbs up to the Stoop Standing Stone and then descends straight back down to where the race started, finishing with a small ascent to the finish line at the cricket pitch in the park.

Nathan Edmondson led the Harriers home, finishing in third place overall in a time of 30:50. He was followed by Danny Thompson in 38:37 and the third Harrier to finish was Christos Tzelis in 40:34.

Rachel Carter led the Ilkley ladies home in 43:03, finishing second in her age category. Junior Ilkley Harriers, Harriet Carter and Robert Carter won the girls U9 and boys U11 categories respectively.

Over on the Cumbrian fells, Kate Archer took part in the Tour de Helvellyn, a classic winter mountain run, traditionally run on the shortest Saturday in December. The route starts at Askham and runs around Helvellyn, mainly on mountain trails and bridleways covering a distance of around 38 miles with around 2000m of ascent and descent.

Kate ran this in an impressive 7:27:03. She was third lady to finish and 26th overall out of 161 finishers.

The third race of the PECO cross country series took place this weekend at Middleton Park in Leeds. Some great running despite the very muddy conditions underfoot. Eight Harriers took part in the men’s race.

Steven Gott was the first Harrier home in a time of 31:32, followed closely by Dan McKeown in 32:10. In the ladies race, Diane Kitchen lead the ladies home and finished second in her age category.

Lots of excellent results for Ilkley Harriers at this week’s parkruns. Abigail Swales was the first lady to finish at the Skipton parkrun in a time of 22:21.

Michael Abrams Cohen and Tom Lambe both managed to finish in third place at the Wetherby and Horton parkruns respectively.

Catherine Gibbons, James Lee, Adam Gerrish, Tim Ashelford and Steve Newell all had great parkruns too, finishing in the top ten in various parkruns around the country.
