THACKLEY bowed out of the West Riding County Cup on Wednesday night, sliding to an emphatic 5-1 defeat at Brighouse Town.

With that victory, Brig have made it into the quarter-finals, where they will entertain the winner of the upcoming tie between Harrogate Railway and Steeton.

Wednesday night's hosts made a lightning start, with Jack Boyle putting them in front after only eight minutes, after he slotted home a ball played into the middle.

Alex King then scored his first goal for Brighouse, producing a couple of neat turns to find space, before firing an effort beyond Thackley keeper Jack Holroyd.

The Dennyboys halved the deficit just before the break though, with Albert Ibrahimi netting from the penalty spot.

Like King, Elliot Harrison grabbed his first goal in Brighouse orange, scoring on 47 minutes after shrugging off a few defenders before slotting the ball beyond Holroyd.

Harrison netted a scrappy second to make it 4-1 halfway through the second period, before Boyle rubbed salt into the wounds by scoring Brig's fifth in added time when he found the bottom corner.

Guiseley have joined Brighouse in the last-eight, where they face a trip to Albion Sports.

That is because the Lions romped to a 4-1 win in their second round clash at Tadcaster Albion on Tuesday night.

A floodlight failure before kick-off was eventually resolved, with the game kicking off 20 minutes late as a result.

A mix-up at the back saw Jacob Gratton put Guiseley in front after just two minutes, but Taddy soon equalised courtesy of Charlie Marshall.

Guiseley dominated thereafter, but were still level at the break.

They made their superiority count in the second half though, with Gratton scoring another goal and Adam Haw netting twice.

The Lions can put their feet up this weekend now, with tomorrow's scheduled FA Trophy opponents Chesterfield forced to pull out of the competition due to a 'Covid event'.

Bradford City Women meanwhile won't be back in action until the New Year, after their scheduled West Riding County Cup game at Yorkshire Amateur last night was postponed due to pitch issues.
