GUISELEY have announced the capture of striker Jordan Thewlis following his departure from Boston United.

Russ O’Neill has finally got his man, after signing former Boston United forward Thewlis for the coming season.

Thewlis has been a target for O’Neill a number of times in the past and now the Scunthorpe-based player will join up with The Lions’ boss as a new season in the National League North looms.

Thewlis, 28, has plenty of experience of playing at this level and also has experience of playing his football in Yorkshire, having twice previously been a Harrogate Town player as well as having played for Scarborough Athletic.

The Scunthorpe-raised player started playing football at the age of six and progressed through the Scunthorpe United Academy before signing a professional contract with Scunthorpe.

He had two two season spells with Harrogate and spent a season at Gainsborough before signing for Boston United, where he has spent the past two Covid hit campaigns.

Thewlis, who runs his own business renovating property, scored 22 goals in 53 games for Boston and appeared in the play-off semi-final for them last season.

That was when he felt the lack of fans at games the most saying: “It was such a big game for us but without fans it felt flat, more like a pre-season friendly.”

Thewlis can play as an out and out striker or as a winger but said: “I played out wide quite a bit for Boston and at Gainsborough but I prefer to play as a central striker.

"I think the highlight for me last season was scoring in the FA Cup game against Rochdale.”

Thewlis is happy to link up with his new teammates at Guiseley saying: “This is the first time I have joined a club where I have not known any of the players.

" I don’t normally look forward to training but I am this time after being without football for so long. To keep fit I have been running and going to the gym but I find that necessary but a bit boring.”

Jordan will be at Nethermoor next season and in line with the season ticket renewal announcement, fans can be too.

The 2021/22 season tickets are now available. Head to the Guiseley website to get yours.

Along with the news of Thewlis joining the club, Guiseley confirmed FC Halifax Town will visit Nethermoor on Tuesday 3rd August for a pre-season friendly ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Tickets for the visit of the Vanarama National League side are available to purchase online.

It is the second season on the spin that the The Shaymen will travel to Nethermoor, for a friendly, following a narrow 2-1 loss for The Lions in September 2020.

Kick-off on Tuesday 3rd August will be at 7:45pm.

FC Halifax Town manager Pete Wild led his side to a 10th placed finish last season, they just missed out on a spot in the play offs with a final day defeat to Chesterfield. Tickets are priced at £10 adults, £5 concessions/U18’s and £1 accompanied U11’s.
