THE second week of the West Riding County Women's Football League Invitational Cup group matches saw mixed results for local teams.
Brighouse Sports bounced back from last week’s 9–1 loss to Yorkshire Amateur with a 4–1 victory over Ossett Reserves.
A game of many chances and a tough battle saw two late strikes seal the win for Brighouse, with goals from Leanne Smith (2), Abbie Whitehead and Kennedy Power.
Silsden put on a good show against Harrogate Railway, but were frustrated to go down 3–1 after a well-contested nip and tuck game for the first hour.
Skipton Town put in a great performance to beat Brayton Belles 2–1, with Emily Throup and Jess Ogden on target.
Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves had a much-improved showing but lost 6–1 to a strong Morley Town.
In the Yorkshire U18s League, Norristhorpe opened a gap above Queensbury Celtic after beating Guiseley 2–1.
Last week the Waters siblings put Queensbury ahead but Guiseley skipper Josie Barnes’ brace had ensured the points were shared.
Burley Trojans beat Thackley Reserves 6–1 in a friendly, also raising awareness of suicide and mental health via local charity It’s Worth Talking About.
Thackley Reserves had many chances but also made plenty of mistakes, before Katie Waters scored a consolation.
