ILKLEY Town remain one of only two teams who have won all their games in the West Yorkshire League Premier Division after they beat Knaresborough Town.

Tom Smith and Matthew Whitehead got the goals in the comfortable 2-0 win on a wet afternoon.

Ilkley had the first opportunity to score from a corner when the ball fell to Tom Bull inside the box. Bull hit it first time, but his shot flew over the bar.

The visitors had another chance just before the break. Smith got into a goalscoring opportunity from close range and blasted his effort well over.

Shortly after half time, Smith made amends and broke the deadlock.

The Baht 'atters doubled their lead when midfielder Whitehead beat the last defender for pace before going one-on-one with the keeper and placing the ball in the bottom corner.

As the game came to a close, Tom Fleming had an opportunity to get on the scoresheet when he found himself unmarked on the edge of the box. However, his shot whistled past the post.

After the game, Ilkley manager Simon Armstrong commented on the way his team defended.

He said: “Our two centre-backs were outstanding."

Town are now joint-top with Field, but the team who dominated last season's table, before the results were expunged, Beeston St Anthony are yet to play a fourth match.
