BARNOLDSWICK'S Anthony Ayrton mastered two hard courses in one weekend in the intermediate class at Stump Cross and Cockhill Mines.

There was thick fog and torrential rain at the former, but the conditions failed to affect Horsforth & District Motor Club's seventh Simon Green Engineers Club Championship series trial, where 50 riders battled it out in a number of classes.

Remarkably, Ged and David Fallon managed to ride the entire ten section trials course without incurring a single penalty.

The club put on record its thanks to observers Georgia Ridley, Helen Greaves, Chris Bancroft, Graham Smith, Wendy Sherwin, Brian Ayrton, Nick Cahill, Katherine Wilson-Britton, Steve Hirst and Jane McLoughlin.

While, Wetherby & District Motor Club also braved the weather forecast to stage the fifth Norman Crooks Trophy Championship trial at a gloomy Cockhill Mines, near the village of Greenhow.

58 competitors rode a four lap championship course. Course planner Patrick Darbyshire heeded the weather intention, saying: "I did not include the east valley as the stream was running deep and more rain would have made it impassable"

As riders scales, Wendy Sherwin's opening climb on lap one the sky was darkening. The modest climb extracted some penalties.

The second section was downstream and below the third and fourth that overlooked the openers. The course then tracked the west valley for section five to seven, with eight to ten up the narrow stream adjacent to the paddock.

As the early numbers homed in on Mrs Sherwin's climb the clouds rolled in and along came the rain. Despite, the monsoon, only seven competitors retired.

Special mentions must go to Jim Benson, Sue Wainwright, Brian Ayrton, Rob Shepherd, Andy Sherwin, Steve Wicks, Emma Hemingway.
