GUISELEY'S joint-manager Marcus Bignot is pleased to see the experienced Andrai Jones come good after his injury hell this season, but says last Saturday's costly home draw with Gateshead means his side now have to go on a winning run.

With the north-east side winning in midweek at Boston United too, they moved up to sixth in the Vanarama National League North, with Guiseley now seven points off the play-offs.

Those results mean Bignot is desperate to win at surprise strugglers Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday. They are a club close to the heart of the West Midlander, but he intends to show them no mercy.

Speaking about that clash, he said: "We need to go on a run of victories now, not just be undefeated.

"We've had back to back wins a few times this season, but now we need three, four or five in a row.

"We know we can get back to back but we need to go to the next stage.

"The most important game now is Kidderminster, so we need to start that run on Saturday."

Kidderminster came second in this division in 2016/17, fourth the year after, before just missing out on the play-offs in 10th last season.

They are currently floundering in 15th, with their promotion hopes non-existent, and asked about the West Midlands side's struggles, Bignot said: "When I played there (in the 1990s) they were the biggest non-league club in the country.

"They always looked destined for the Football League and they played there. But they suffered relegations and now they've been in the National League North for seven years I think.

"It's difficult to put your finger on it (the problems this season), because the infrastructure there really is a league above.

"There's still the potential of Football League for them but this league is competitive with big clubs in it.

"They've just lost their manager and Russ Penn is the new caretaker, so they've not found a solution to the problems that are clearly there.

"They're a club close to my heart so I don't want to see them down in the National League North, but you have to warrant promotion, and they've not done that for whatever reason."

Guiseley will have to go some to get promotion now themselves, after blowing a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 in the final five minutes against Gateshead.

One of the few positives to take from the game was midfielder Jones scoring his first goal for the club, and Bignot said: "Andrai had a terrible start to the season. He picked up an injury and missed all of pre-season and well beyond that too.

"But he's worked hard to find his way back into the team. He offers us a key ingredient, playing in the middle and making that vital pass.

"He's experienced at this level too (Jones has played non-league football for Alfreton Town, Gateshead and Southport), so on Saturday, we were looking to Andrai as one of those players to help us see it through."

But see it through they did not, with Bignot saying: ""Obviously with five minutes to go, nine times out of 10 you'd expect to see it out.

"But it wasn't to be and we've let a really good position slip by.

"We should have got the result and three points, even if our performance didn't deserve all three."
