BEN Rhydding men's team bounced back from last week’s defeat to put on an impressive display against a very strong Brooklands side, beating the visitors 5-2 at home.

They were under severe pressure from the start as Brooklands came out hard but Torran Hockley in goal was electric in keeping them out.

Rhydding rode through a period of early pressure and then began to play some quality hockey.

Young Rob Elsworth opened the scoring with fast reactions in front of goal to give Rhydding the lead.

Will Jones was well rewarded for his relentless work in scoring the second from a difficult angle and Rhydding found themselves 2-0 up.

With the help of Torran Hockley in goal marshalling the defensive shape, Brooklands had nowhere to go and Rhydding kept them at bay for long periods.

Myles Locke was particularly influential in stepping to intercept and turning defence into attack.

Brooklands stayed in the game with a deft corner to take it to 2-1, but Rhydding stepped up and turned on the flair.

Will Musgrave scored a stunning corner to stretch the lead to 3-1.

Charlie Smith then scored a magnificent individual goal after collecting an aerial from Myles Locke to make it 4-1.

Not content with that, Smith scored another after connecting with a great ball from Rob Elsworth and jinking around the Brooklands defence to smash it past the keeper to take the score to 5-1.

Brooklands got a penalty stroke in the dying embers but it was too little too late.

Rhydding's fine performance takes them up to fourth place in the league.

* Charlie Smith was on fire on Sunday as well, scoring all three goals in Ben Rhydding's Mixed Team's win 3-1 in the England Hockey Cup against Driffield.
