ILKLEY Harriers' runner Tom Adams notched another emphatic win last weekend, this time at the Gisburn Forest 10k Trail Race.
Adams powered away from the field over the scenic 10km course. He crossed the line in 33 minutes and 57 seconds, well ahead of second-placed Joe Baxter of Pudsey and Bramley AC. Rossendale's Jonathan Cleaver in third was the only other runner to break the 40-minute mark.
Nathan Edmondson just missed out on a 10k victory of his own at the Shepherd's Skyline event, taking second place behind Mercia's Simon Bailey. On a fast, muddy course which featured 350 metres of climbing, Edmondson clocked 44:34 while Harriers teammate Steve Gott was 11th in 49:54.
On Sunday, in-form Mike Abrams-Cohen led a strong contingent of Harriers home at the hilly Guy Fawkes 10-mile road race. He smashed his personal best time by over four minutes as he took 42nd place out of 797 finishers in one hour, eight minutes and three seconds. Only just behind were Kate Archer and Rachel Carter, who were third and fourth ladies, respectively - and also first and second in the F40 standings.
Alongside that pair was Steve Murray, his 47th being good enough for third in the M50 category. Hilda Coulsey was second F65 and Catherine Crawley was fourth F40.
Stepping up in distance, the oddly-named Short Circuit saw three Harriers tackle a 33-mile local loop, which contained over 4,000 feet of climbing. It is one of a series of races organised by Punk Panther.
The route starts in Otley and goes up to Surprise View at the top of the Chevin, over to Bramhope, Cookridge, Yeadon Tarn, Guiseley Woods, Hawksworth, Menston, onto the moor at Burley Woodhead to the Cow and Calf, down Ben Rhydding and up to Timble and Norwood before finishing at Pool-in-Wharfedale.
As if that wasn't testing enough, the muddy underfoot conditions added to the challenge but Ben Sheppard thrived on it, taking sixth place in just over five hours while Oli Street was 35th and Dave Reynier 61st of the 100 plus who completed it.
Sunday's Bradford Half-Marathon saw three excellent Harriers performances. There was a top-20 finish for Derek Oliver, which put him second in his M55 age category, while Daryl King was 24th overall and Michael Ho 35th - the latter duo both claimed third in the M40 and M45 brackets.
Also at Bradford, Will Worboys was 65th out of 210 in the 10km event with a time of 50:24.
Alison Weston and Andy Wolfenden travelled to the Northern Lakes for the Derwent Water 10-mile road race the same day.
Starting from the centre of Keswick, the undulating route circles around Derwent Water, with Weston making it back in 1:25:09 while Wolfenden's 1:39:30 put him high up in the M70 standings.
To round off a busy week there were impressive Parkrun displays, with pride of place going to Beth Massey and Jane McCarthy - who were first females at Bradford and Myrtle - and Paul Carman, who was third at Fountains Abbey in 18:43.
