ROB Lofthouse and Luke Cowdell each scored three tries in Old Otliensians' 65-14 victory over bottom-placed Aireborough to move their side up to second in Yorkshire Three.

Ensians led inside eight minutes when Olly Eaves made up 50 metres deep inside the visitors' territory before winger Lofthouse went over the line for his first try.

Three minutes later, Doug Elgar's drive resulted in a five-metre scrum from which he scrambled away to put the hosts 12 points in front.

Cowdell then got on the scoresheet after more superb play from Eaves.

Before the break, the hosts added two more tries through Will Cooper's sensational run from 40 yards out and Eaves' diving over.

Ensians continued their onslaught in the second half when Paddy Phipps and the returning Ali Campbell scored tries.

Aireborough denied the home side any chances of a whitewash with a 90-metre dash to the line and some neat inter-passing to score a converted try.

However, the home side ended in a flurry as both Lofthouse and Cowdell completed their hat-tricks in style to seal the convincing win.

Ensians are joint second with third-placed Knottingley and fourth-placed Leeds Corinthians, with all three teams on 24 points. However, Ensians have played two more games (eight) than their two rivals.

This could all change this weekend in the only game going ahead in Yorkshire Three. Knottingley or Leeds Corinthians could go top if either side wins when they face each other on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Ensians have started the season in impressive style, recording six wins from their opening eight league games. But they are trying to catch up Baildon who are top with 25 points.

Old Otliensians have a blank weekend and are next in action when they travel to sixth-placed Harrogate Pythons on Saturday, November 9.
