BEN Rhydding put on an impressive and slick performance away at Leeds 2nds to win 4-1 and climb up the North Premier Table to fifth place.

Myles Locke posed an immediate threat with his ability to make long connections and Leeds had no answer to the fluid hockey they faced.

Fraser Arnott put Will Musgrave through and he buried a trademark reverse to give Rhydding an early lead.

Matty Birch was high impact throughout and initiated many attacks.

It was disappointing for Rhydding that Leeds scored an equaliser on the half-time whistle.

In the second half, Neil Sugden was dominate in possession and put Max Helme through on goal. Helme slipped it across the face of the keeper for Matty Bairstow to convert and take Rhydding back into the lead.

Rhydding looked in control and a spectacular individual goal from Charlie Smith took them out of danger and Leeds had to take their keeper off in dying phase of the game in the hope they could claw back.

With Rhydding’s ability to hit long balls to fast forwards, the plan backfired and Smith popped another into an empty goal to seal the deal at 4-1.

* In their second match of the league season, Ben Rhydding Ladies fought hard but went down to 1-0 defeat to Brooklands-Poynto in a Division One North game.

Despite Brooklands players picking up a handful of yellow cards, giving Rhydding a man advantage for several periods of the game, the Rhydding ladies were unable to snatch the equaliser.

This weekend the ladies entertain Swansea on Saturday and then Gloucester City on Sunday - both games start at 1.30pm.

The men's first team are also at home, playing Durham at 3pm on Saturday.
