Otley runners takes third in Vale of York Half Marathon

After a delayed start, Harrington clocked a time of 1:11:03 behind winner Dominic Shaw in 1:07:45.

First lady was Charlotte Mason in 1:22:16. Rob Grant and Gemma Harrington also represented Otley, finishing in 1:19:52 and 2:09:25, respectively.

Sunday saw the historic Lake District Mountain Trial take place in Langdale.

The mountain trial is the longest running race of its kind and is run on orienteering principles with three courses, all of which are severe tests of route choice, navigational skill and stamina in difficult mountain country.

Sarah Fuller was representing Otley AC, running in the ‘short’ trial as a pair with her 14-year-old daughter, Erin, who was completing her first trial.

The weather was kind and the visibility remained good making the navigation a little easier, although the terrain of the central fells was unforgiving.

They finished in a credible four hours and 43 minutes in 51st place (out of 76 starters). Ben Kent won the race in an impressive 2:28.

Meanwhile, closer to home at the Meanwood Valley Trail Race, Howard Jeffrey had his eye on the M65 category win, which last year was won by John Ward from Abbey Runners.

The conditions were perfect, being sunny and cool with no breeze. Jeffrey overtook Ward early on and managed to hold him off, despite a fall later in the race for first M65 with Ward 2.5 minutes behind in the end.

Elliot Smales of Rotherham Harriers AC won the race in 41.41, first lady Beth Garland of Leeds University AC finished in 48.50, 15th overall.

Liam Dunne of Otley AC was 11th and first M45 in 48.27. Jeffrey finished 85th overall in 59.32.

Matt Podd and Antonio Cardinale represented Otley AC at the Hodder Valley Show Fell Race in Lancashire.

The 11km fell race with 500m ascent was blessed with lovely weather this year.

Ben Abdelnoor (Ambleside) won the race in 54.40, while first lady was Honor Thompson (Skelmersdale) in 1.12.05.

Podd finished 36th in 1.26.57 and Cardinale was 41st in 2.04.59.
