OTLEY Golf Club member Phil Tomkinson has enjoyed a glorious patch of form when, in the last couple of weeks, he achieved a fifth place finish from a particularly strong field in the prestigious Lee Westwood Trophy competition, played at Rotherham Golf Club.

He followed this by finishing second overall in the four round Yorkshire Amateur Championship, played at Pannal.

His four round scores of 70, 68, 73 and 74 enabled him to win The Alvin Trophy, his -6 being the best score after two rounds.

He won the Alan Sowden Trophy for his runner-up finish and his trophy-laden week was further complemented when he and Jack Ward (Rudding Park) won the Inter District Plate for the best aggregate score achieved from two players from the same union.

Tomkinson, along with Will Bradley who also put in a creditable performance in the Yorkshire Amateur.

Sue Ridyard’s nett 36 hole total of 150 was enough to secure her the Past Captains’ Trophy. Her second round of 73 nett also enabled her to win the first division of the medal competition.

Medal results were: Division One: S Ridyard 85 (12) 73, S Wilyman 84 (10) 74, C Elliott 98 (20) 78; Division Two: B Leeming 106 (28) 78, H Palmer 106 (27) 79, J Wood 101 (21) 80; Division Three: G Pinkney 108 (34) 74, R Copley 114 (30) 84, B Cowling 115 (29) 86; Division Four: F Porter 130 (44) 86.

Nine-hole Stableford: Z Hymas 18 points, J Ellison 15, P Bradley 15.

Martin Dickinson and Keith Burton both returned nett 67s as they were the respective winners of the first and second divisions of the Gent’s Medal. It was. Keith, however, who after a countback, was declared the winner of the Centenary Cup, as this competition was played in conjunction with the Medal.

Medal results were Division One: M Dickinson (5) 67, G Taylor (12) 68, J Brook (5) 70; Division Two: K Burton (13) 67, P Middleborugh (18) 69, M Spencer (14) 71; Division Three: J Patterson (25) 68, S Moorcraft (20) 69, T Leslie (29) 70.

Nigel Borwell’s threatened good form materialised as he won the Mid-week Stableford following a countback from John Eaton. Paul Copley achieved a hole in one during the same competition. Results were: N Borwell (14) 37 points, J Eaton (18) 37, J Brady (19) 36.

Jonathan Brook won the nine-hole competition with 19 points.
