POOL responded well to their first match defeat in the West Yorkshire League's Division One with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at home to Salts.

They made hard work of the early stages. Keeper Andy Doey lost the ball close to his right post, but the Salts' forward put his shot wide of the left post.

Doey soon made amends with two excellent point blank saves.

Having weathered this early storm, Pool found another gear and began playing with confidence.

A goal by Jack Farrimond helped them to settle and take a lead into the interval.

When Farrimond added his and Pool's second they looked fairly comfortable, but when Salts pulled a goal back in the final minute, then won a corner in the dying seconds nerves were tested to the full, but Pool held on for a deserved three points.

Pool followed up their midweek win with another three points on Saturday, winning 2-0 at Kippax. Jamie Algar and Matty Bilney scored the goals.

* In Division Two of the West Yorkshire League Alliance, Pool Reserves drew 4-4 in a home game against Howden Clough Reserves.

After their midweek match at Ilkley Reserves, where Pool suffered a heavy 16-0 defeat, the reserves are still without their regular keeper which has them struggling.

But in the game against Howden Clough, they generally played well, with goals coming from Chris Jones, Will Johnson, David Potts and Sebastian Sabene.
