HORSFORTH-based Yarnbury RFC have announced a new coaching team for the coming 2019/20 season, which will see the departure of long-serving Bob Hood.

Tom Gilchrist has been appointed head coach, having previously worked as an assistant coach to the departing Bob Hood, who leaves the club after a phenomenal 25 years’ service.

As a professional coach working with Yorkshire Carnegie’s Academy and as a Scotland Age Grade Coach, Gilchrist (Gilly) will look to add his ideas and principles to training and playing with a huge emphasis on player development.

He will be joined by two new assistant coaches, Steve Riley and James Endersby, both of whom currently play at the club.

Yarnbury chairman of rugby, Dave Newby, said of the appointment “We are extremely excited about this new youthful coaching team, and I am looking forward to working with all the coaches and engaging with the players.

"Gilly is well known to the playing group, having worked as a coach here for the past year, previously four seasons as a player, and brings an enthusiasm for the playing the game in an entertaining way, and an ambition to take the club to the next level.

"In James and Steve we have two guys who whilst at the start of their coaching careers, hold excellent playing CVs and a wealth of knowledge for the game, together with a love of this club.”

Gilchrist added: “Firstly, I need to thank Bob and Gary for all their support and guidance over the years both as a player and more lately mentoring me as a coach.

"Dave and I are excited to bring James and Steve into the coaching group this year and hopefully I will be able to support them as I have been supported by Bob and Gary.

"The coaching team have been hugely motivated by the player’s response to the appointments, the depth of potential quality at the club and the players' characteristics and abilities.

"We are excited to get started and will be forming a player leadership group which will include experienced players who are also looking to give back to the club.

"Yarnbury has a fantastic history and we look forward to creating more memories for our players and all members to enjoy."

Training starts next Tuesday and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday thereafter.

New or returning players are all welcome to attend.
