RACING at the University of Central Lancashire circuit series, Ilkley Cycling Club's Jim Adamson scored his best result of the season so far with second place in the 3/4 category event.

He was part of an early two-man breakaway which came close to lapping the main field, before Adamson's breakaway partner narrowly got the best of him in the finale of the race.

Also in circuit racing at Colne in event five of the CDPP series, Tom Garnett continued his good run of form in the Elite/1/2/3 category race with fifth place in a strong field.

Otley Cycling Club scored a rare one-two in the race with the win taken by Robbie Pollard followed by Great Britain universities champion, Tom Cullen.

In the supporting race for 3/4 categories, Michael Strange and 55-year-old, Neil Rollins finished close together with 13th and 18th places respectively.

Ilkley had three riders in the Bronte Whs 10-mile time-trial at Cracoe, where Liam Rees and Nina Benson were again close matched as they continue a personal battle to get the better of each other.

The times were: Liam Rees 26 minutes 25 seconds; Nina Benson 26.54 and Camilla Boyton 28.48.

Ilkley fielded four riders in the second race of the Yorkshire Summer Cross Series held at Holmfirth in dry, summery conditions.

With more than 160 on the start line, it was a race requiring full concentration on the tight, grassy, school field-based course, which included traversing two sandpits.

Under-16 rider Seb Cliffe was ICC’s leading performer in 28th, followed by Arthur Wilson in 32nd, Jason Bishop 61st and John McManus 81st.
