Emphatic win see Burley Trojans advance to cup semi-final

This was a great opportunity for Burley and manager Tom Higman once again had to make changes with a growing injury list.

They welcomed back Jason Wright in goal, the stopper not being available since last season.

The game started after a big downpour of rain but that did not dampen any spirits and Burley made a bright start.

They controlled the pace and tempo from the off. Danny Bryan dominated in midfield alongside Tom Ross.

The weather dictated much of Beckwithshaw's early play as they utilised the wind playing long balls to test Burley’s back four, but Richard Bryan and Ben Garnham held strong in the middle.

Neat work down the left flank started by captain Dave Healey lead to Trojans' first corner and ever present striker Eddy Bryan nodded home for a well-deserved lead.

A neat move brought Trojans' second goal, Simon Walker holding the ball up well to slot Eddy Bryan in. He passed to Red Bolton on the right and Bolton slotted into the bottom left corner.

At half-time Higman, although please with the scoreline, sent everyone back out with the encouragement to kill the game off in the next 45 minutes.

Trojans got into gear and Eddy Bryan scored his second with a fantastic run, beating his man and lifting the ball over the oncoming keeper to make it 3-0.

Higman brought on fresh legs with Dom Grimes replacing Danny Bryan and he himself replacing Bolton.

Both subs brought an immediate impact and wrapped the game up comfortably. Grimes was slotted in on goal by right-back Chris Wheeler and his jinking run saw him stride into the penalty area to make it 4-0.

The Burley scoring was capped off by a stunning strike from 40 yards out by Higman, who had spotted the keeper off his line and took advantage with an audacious effort.

The visitors got a consolation goal from the penalty spot when Richard Bryan was adjudged to have brought down the Beckwithshaw striker.

It mattered little in the end, as Burley closed out a well-fought, professional win.
