OTLEY AC runner Sarah Fuller completed the Marmot Dark Mountains overnight race held in the Far Eastern Fells of the Lake District.

Sarah and her race partner finished the mountain marathon as the ninth pair out of 31 teams with a short score of 340 points.

Sarah said: "This was my third running of this winter pairs event. It’s perhaps the most challenging, unusual and appealing event in the mountain marathon calendar, taking the usual two day / overnight wild camp format and squeezing it into one dusk till dawn extravaganza.

"I hadn’t run the event since 2014, when we had a storming run coming in second overall and first ladies in long score. We were hoping to do well again despite the growing popularity of the event."

A injury to her partner in the run up to the race necessitated a change to the shorter score event

Setting off from Lowther Castle in the pouring rain, which fell as snow higher up, the women set a steady pace but navigation was challenging as they were up against some difficult terrain in blizzard-like conditions

Sarah said: "It’s a very satisfying feeling to have spent a full night in the mountains in pretty inclement weather moving under our own steam and doing some tough night nav."
