Keighley 2nds 41

Wharfedale Dev XV 24

WHARFEDALE Devs lost 41-24 to a strong Keighley 2nds side on Sunday at Rose Cottage in conditions that suited neither team.

Keighley adapted to the conditions better than the Devs, and although Wharfedale controlled the line-out and had parity in the scrum Keighley struck first through Jake Hill in the centre. His pace allowed him to chase down a speculative kick through and score.

Keighley went further ahead when their pacy outside centre scored in the right hand corner.

Wharfedale got on the scoreboard through a well-worked try under the posts, when excellent short passing and support play allowed Luke Craven to score.

A strong carry by Wharfedale's Jack Kitchen opened a gap for Jonathan Davies to score in the left hand corner.

Half-time came with Wharfedale on the front foot and that continued into the second half. Despite being down to 14 men Dale dominated the territorial battle, and Davies scored another try.

With the game tightly balanced at 27-24, Wharfedale left big holes in midfield allowing the two Keighley centres to run in tries from their own half.

The try of the day came from Tom Oakes, who finished off a well-worked move involving both backs and forwards and ending with him touching down with a neat dive in the corner.

A controversial try from Keighley finished Wharfedale off and resulted in a final scoreline of 41-24 to Keighley.
