AIRECENTRE Pacers’ club captain Will Woodhead has been crowned overall winner of the prestigious Punk Panther Ultra-Marathon series.

Woodhead finished the series with 896 points, a massive 130 points clear of second-placed runner Gareth Birbeck.

The Punk Panther races are a gruelling set of six mixed-terrain events with a minimum distance of 50 kilometres, all beginning in Otley and finishing in Pool-in-Wharfedale, but taking varying routes around the West Yorkshire moors and valleys.

Athletes score points in each race based on both distance covered and finishing position.

Consistency was mostly the key to Will’s amazing success, after he scored a number of top ten finishes in the series.

The high point though was outright victory in the 105km High Life Ultra, which took him an epic 16 hours and 18 minutes to complete.

With an impressive 28 ultra-marathons under his belt, you might think that Will would be planning for a rest but his victory in the Punk Panther series has qualified him for the celebrated Ultra-Marathon Mont Blanc event in 2019.

While there, he will be competing in the 56km race, running over the Alps from Switzerland to France.
