Ben Rhydding Men 7 Deeside Ramblers 2

BEN Rhydding Men produced seven goals for the third successive home game, with Deeside Ramblers the latest to fall victim to their onslaught.

Will Musgrave opened the scoring with a slick short corner routine but the hosts initially failed to make their possession count and let Deeside reply soon after with a corner.

Rhydding continued to dominate the possession and another corner came, which Musgrave again put away to make it 2-1.

As Deeside tired, some beautiful link up play all across the pitch brought an easy goal for number three, Andrew Lorimer popping it in on the post.

Deeside pulled it back to 3-2 early in the second half from an avoidable corner. From then on, Ben Rhydding took the reins.

They soon scored another corner via a nice spiked deflection by Giles Flatt off a Myles Locke strike, followed shortly after by a beautifully taken goal from Matty Bairstow, who connected with a great ball from Max Helme.

Patient build up play with a long series of connections were rewarded as Musgrave bagged his hat-trick before a series of long distance passes were finished off by Bairstow’s deft touch to make it seven.

Captain Robert Ramsden was thrilled with the performance, saying: "I'm hoping we can replicate this when playing away, such as this Saturday at Newcastle."

Meanwhile, University of Durham managed to leapfrog the Ben Rhydding Ladies as they moved up into third place, just a point above Rhydding, with a 1-0 win in the North East.

Charlotte Childs scored the only goal for Durham midway through the first half and, though they worked hard, the visitors were unable to get back into the game. This Saturday they entertain Leicester, who are second in the league, at 1:30pm.
