AFTER a week off, a rested Wharfedale first team are preparing for a test against Chester tomorrow.

When Pocklington failed to raise a team for last Saturday's Yorkshire Cup at the Avenue, Wharfedale received a walkover into the next round.

This allowed Wharfedale coach John Feeley to watch the Foresters win 19-12 at Harrogate at the weekend.

"It's important to see the players who are pushing for a first team place," said Feeley.

"It was a good game and great test for the Foresters because Harrogate played a lot of their first team players."

Although Wharfedale's first team have been on a good run, with three wins in three matches, and the players are brimming with confidence, Feeley welcomed the walkover.

"The week off was really timely," he said.

"We might have been short in key areas as we have some players with injuries."

Sam Gaudie, Chris Walker, Ben Blackwell and Rhys Lovegrove all faced fitness tests this week to assess their availability for tomorrow when the Greens travel to Cheshire to take on Chester.

Chester are currently second in National League Division Two North, and they have the best defensive record in the league with just 163 points conceded in 10 games.

"They've conceded just 22 tries, and we're fourth best with 30 tries conceded," said Feeley.

"We've hugely improved our defence, so this game will be a good reflection on two strong defensive teams."

This week the Greens have once again train on Keighley RUFC's artificial pitch as Chester play on a 4G surface.

Feeley also noted that Chester are a "very well drilled side" who play their rugby using "clear system approach".

"Their system is very structured and everybody runs definite lines," said Feeley.

"Our aim is to break that approach and force them to adapt."
