OTLEY notched up their third five-point win in succession with a 26-10 win in their inaugural match against Peterborough Lions.

Visitors Otley started the game well, as two early penalties got them within touching distance of the Lions’ line but they lost the ball at the scrum.

The Lions then took the game to Otley, having both pressure and territory for the remainder of the first quarter.

Otley’s defence held firm, and the Lions could not find the finishing touch.

The visitors eventually relieved the pressure on 20 minutes when Tom Casson broke through, getting the ball to Jack Dyson.

Now in the Lions’s den, Ben Magee had a 25 metre run in to score, and Ben Smith converted.

They doubled the score ten minutes later, with Brett Mitchell and Adam Malthouse the instigators, Magee going over his second converted try.

The Lions eventually got onto to the scoreboard just before half-time with a try by hooker Charley Robinson on the right following a driving maul with his forwards.

Otley kicked off the second half and ten minutes in extended their lead. They won a scrum in the opposition 22 and worked the ball to the right, from which Paul Petchey went over.

Whilst the Lions’ response was immediate, Christian Edbrooke scoring in the corner after a line-out, Otley began to take control of the match.

They made the game safe with their fourth try, as Declan Dunn put in Harry Skelton to cross over. Ben Smith scored his third conversion.

The last time Otley got three five-point wins on the trot was in October 2014, and it was going back to the start of the 2012-13 season when two of those wins to be on the road.
