THE Jack Leslie Ellis Memorial Trial took place on Sunday at Winksley seven months later than planned when the weather had dictated many off-road events.

Sunday's course was a multi-section two-lap road event hosted by Ripon Motor Club.

The 20 sections tested a mere 56 starters and no youths as it was a road-based event.

Despite being a Yorkshire Centre Championship event, only six riders contended the main course where Danny Gamble was in charge while the top Inter Louis Haley kept his Montesa 4RT and Guiseley's Danny Cockshott in control.

John Lydamore was on for the novice class as he was the only entrant.

Andrew Jackson ran second to Richmond's Richard Fraser in Clubman A.

Horsforth rider Howard Gulley topped the Clubman B category from Roger Williams and Rob Hardisty.

Both clocked up six penalties which went in favour of Williams who rode his elderly Fantic machine.

West Leeds Motor Club ran its fifth club championship trial at Post Hill on Saturday.

Jeff Prior and Stuart Hampson plotted a mild course which yielded low scores and a clean ride for green course contestant Keith Normington and his Triumph Cub.

Eight and five laps sufficed on what was a cold afternoon at the Pudsey venue.

Chris Hunt was on home ground for the trial and was the only championship course rider so all he had to do to clinch the title was get his Vertigo home which he did with just three penalties.

The best clubman was Steven Fowler who duplicated his wining ride on the clubman course from teenager Henry Stephenson who took West Leeds club secretary Mark Chippendale to the cleaners.

Mark Butler took the easy route on his Fantic and got the better of Beta mounted Mick Ward.

The next championship series trial fires up again on Saturday, November 24, with a 1pm start time.
