Saints have been linked with a move for Edin Dzeko.
The former Manchester City striker won two Premier League titles and scored 50 goals in 130 appearances during his spell in England.
He then left to join Italian side Roma before turning down a move to Chelsea last January.
Saints midfielder Steven Davis witnessed the Bosnian's eye for goal during Northern Ireland's 2-0 defeat in Sarajevo.
And Dzeko then hinted about a possible return to England.
He said: “It’s probably too late for me to return to the Premier League, but you never know: we’ll see.
“I love English football, I played in the Premier League for four-and-a-half years and enjoyed it a lot, even if I’m happy at Roma right now.”
