STEETON will show its support for a charity at Saturday's home cup game to mark Non-League Day.

Roy Mason's side host Avro in the first round proper of the FA Vase at Cougar Park (kick-off 3pm).

To mark the historic fixture for the club, it will be taking part in the national event to help raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

The FA's Non-League Day, an annual event now in its fifth year, aims to promote non-league football and raise awareness about prostate cancer.

Steeton hope fans will join them for the day, which will include a half-time exhibition game with Sutton Juniors. The Juniors club are one of the biggest in the area with teams from Under 7s right up to open age level. Several of Steeton’s current first team players have come through the ranks at the club.

Mason said: "It’s a big day for both Steeton and Avro.

“One that both of us have strived towards for nearly 12 months after we both decided to apply for promotion to the North West Counties League. I think that the move has proved successful for both so far.

“Hopefully, this afternoon we will have our biggest attendance of the season since moving to Cougar Park and that will be bolstered by Sutton Juniors, who have been invited to take part in a game on the pitch at half-time.

“It’s also great to be supporting an important cause such as Prostate Cancer UK on Non-League Day, which also ties in with the club’s designated charity, Manorlands, and the vital work they do."

Collection tins and pin badges will be distributed around the ground as the club aim to raise both money and awareness about the disease. Many people are unaware that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. It’s a huge issue that cannot be ignored. One man will die from prostate cancer every 45 minutes in the UK, which works out as 11,000 men a year.

James Beeby, director of fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “The power of football consistently helps us reach out to men and their friends and families, and we are very grateful for Steeton’s support on Non-League Day as we continue to raise money and awareness throughout the grassroots game in innovative ways.”
