OTLEY AC's Tom Lynch and Colin Best showed their class at Fallfest 5, as they finished sixth and 28th respectively, claiming a pair of category wins in the process.

The former was hoping for a good result, as the event clashed with the Great Whernside Fell Race, his thinking being that all the big guns would be running elsewhere.

He managed to finish in 40 minutes and 34 seconds, which would have netted him the win last year, but not on this occasion.

Lynch was beaten across the line by five runners, including last year's victor, Tim Chadwick, but he still managed to pick up victory in the M35 category.

Best's time of 52:09 was enough to secure him the M60 crown, while David Fox, another M60 runner, finished 38th for Otley in 58:45.

The five-mile race is attached to a Fall festival that runs at the Glusburn Institute, which sees a race up to the ‘Salt and Pepper pots’, two follies on top of the small hill, Earl Crag, which sits above Glusburn and Cowling.

Otley did have some competitors at the aforementioned Whernside race and Caron Ralph tackled her first FV50 category run, coming 115th overall in a time of 55:07.

Andrew Robertshaw was the club’s best performer though, finishing 17th with a time of 36:20.

Otley’s Milanese master Antonio Cardinale also competed and the veteran came home in 1:16:47 to secure 126th place.

Finally, Ian Broadbent tackled a trip to Snowdonia to take part in the Trailfest Half Marathon. Despite carrying an injury, he managed to knock 18 minutes off his course best to finish finishing 67th out of 139 runners.
