DESPITE a good start and signs of a potent attack, Baildon lost their Yorkshire Division Three seasonal opener 40-17 at home to Hemsworth, with lapses in concentration costing the home side dear.

The opening exchanges were positive for Baildon, and when they put together their own phases, involving bullocking runs from Adam Hewitt, dancing feet from Tom Cluett and great link work from Zack Orrell helped Joe Robinson to dummy his way over for the first score.

Ollie Williams converted for 7-0 but then Baildon fluffed four chances to clear their lines, and Hemsworth levelled.

However, Baildon responded, playing in the right parts of the field through a good kicking game, and Orrell once more pilfered opposition line-out ball before Harrison Strauss jinked over to make it 12-7.

Having scored, Baildon once more switched off and trailed 19-12 at half-time.

They then allowed Hemsworth to stroll over untouched from a line-out, but responded via a mazy try by Luke Strauss before two late scores put Hemsworth out of sight and flattered them but they denied the hosts even a four-try bonus point.
