SARA Elliott starred as a host of Otley AC athletes took part in the scorching Wetherby 10k. She came third V45 in 47 minutes and 43 seconds, with Lee Gumbrell (46:54) the only other finisher to record a time of less than 50 minutes for Otley.

The event begins at the town's racecourse, before runners reach the road, then the cycle path alongside the Wetherby bypass.

Otley's Andrew Rayner (54:41) made a fast start but Gumbrell showed his pace by overtaking him early, maintaining his position as the lead runner for the club.

Rebecca Keinhorst and Amie Jordan also ran well, with the flying females eventually sandwiching Raynor's finishing time, with efforts of 54:20 and 55:20 respectively.

Ann Yeadon was in a good position, but was passed by Raynor, Keinhorst and Jordan at the drinks station on halfway. She still came home in well under an hour though, in 56:48.

The other Otley athletes competing in the event were Hannah Place, who finished in one hour, one minute and 41 seconds, and she was joined by Vicki Drake and Natasha Whittaker, who recorded times of 1:07:34 and 1:13:50 respectively.

Meanwhile, Matt Podd competed for the club at the 5.3-mile Longshaw Sheepdog Trial Fell Race in the Eastern Peak District.

The oldest sheepdog trail in the world provided a great but challenging run, with steep climbs over Burbage Edge, Carl Wark, and Higgar Tor.

These ascents are followed by a run along the top of Millstone quarry, passing Mother Cap, before going down to the top of Padley Gorge.

The finishing run was uphill, with Podd and his fellow competitors cheered on by a crowd of sheepdog enthusiasts. He finished 135th overall out of 176 runners, with a time of one hour, one minute and 48 seconds.
