A GROUP of athletes from Airecentre Pacers were among the 57,000 runners who took part in this year's Great North Run.
As well as training hard for the half-marathon distance, the Pacers went an extra mile and raised money for their nominated charities.
Dave and Liz cook raised over £1000 for Diabetes UK and Chris Larkin over £300 for Sue Ryder. Children with Cancer, Tommy's and the Alzheimer’s Society also benefited.
In the race itself, team captain Rebecca Streets breezed home with a time of 1hr 29min 32sec and 811th position overall.
Other finishing times included: William Woodhead 1.37.15, Chris Larkins 1.41.15, Adam Johnson 1.46.16, Peter O’Neill 1.52.47, Catherine Brown, 2.10.57, Simon Walker 2.11.40, Ruth Murphy 2.16.43, Donna Stansfield 2.29.14, Rebecca Hirst 2.35.10.
In the second of the weekend’s half-marathon races Mohammad Abubakr led the Pacer contingent at the Vale of York Half with a time of 1.34.52.
Tony Pfeiffer produced a good run for 11th place in the M60 at 1.45.13, Cathy Stothers took sixth in the F50 with 1.47.57 and Margaret Britton continued a great race season by taking second in the F60 in 1.50.22.
Other finishers included Rhona Neilson 1.54.31, Jenny Mynett 1.57.24, Carole Keighley 1.58.22 and Amanda Connor 2.32.59.
