MORE than100 children from eight primary schools in and around the Ilkley area had an exciting afternoon at the annual Wharfedale Jubilee primary schools swimming gala on Tuesday.
The gala, now in its fifth year, was hosted by Ilkley Swimming Club and sponsored by The Co-Ops in Wharfedale (Menston, Burley, Ilkley and Addingham).
This year eight schools attended with children from All Saints, Askwith, Ashlands, Ben Rhydding, Burley & Woodhead, Menston, Ghyll Royd and Westville House taking part.
The schools competed in a total of 16 events including boys and girls individual and relay races.
The children all put in brilliant performances and all the races were extremely hard fought, with the top of the leaderboard changing hands a number of times.
In the end the girls cup was won by Ghyll Royd, with Westville House in second place and Askwith in third.
The Boys trophy was taken home by Burley & Woodhead, with Westville House again in second place and Ghyll Royd in third
Once the scores were added together for both the girls and boys teams the Wharfedale Jubilee Trophy was won by Westville House.
The gala was jointly organised by Ilkley Grammar School and Ilkley Swimming clubs and was kindly sponsored by Wharfedale Co-Ops.
