Preston 2nds 1 Ben Rhydding 6

LEAGUE champions Ben Rhydding returned to winning ways as they hit Preston for six.

Five of their goals. Came in the first half when Myles Locke’s superlative pass was deflected into the net with a deft touch by Matty Bairstow.

The second was built from Robert Ramsden’s mazy carry. He drew several defenders before Andrew Lorimer delivered a smooth cross for the ever-hungry Mark Portnell to tap in on the post.

Elliot Dowley netted the third and fourth goals with some delightful individual running, ghosting through the midfield and finishing with his trademark snapshot.

The talented Matthew Ramshaw tapped the fifth in at the post after George Gamble’s shot was saved.

Preston scored a consolation goal when one of their National League players mopped up a lucky miss trap but they never really got in the game.

The second half saw some ugly defending and Rhydding’s flow was disrupted by Preston. Many chances were denied by Preston’s young and promising keeper.

When the sixth goal finally came it was an action replay of the first. Myles Locke’s deadly sling pass enabled Bairstow to deflect the ball into the net.

Rhydding play their last league game of the season at home on Saturday against Lindum (3pm).
