SIR - Re John Appleyard's letter (T&A letters, April 17) regarding Enoch Powell's speech 50 years ago. It was the case back then that racism was rife. Everyone was against those who were not British. During my school days at Wyke Manor we had Asian boys who all wore western clothing, not one girl wore a veil.

I have nothing against Asians, I have two mates who were born in Pakistan in the 60sand came here in 1975. We are in our 60s and they speak with a Yorkshire accent and wear western clothing.

We should try to live in harmony. I'm sorry but I feel if you live here you should blend in with the rest of us and wear western clothing, Maybe this way there wouldn't be racism.
