The family of Duncan Roberts, 47, would like to thank the people of Ilkley who offered support and friendship to him over the 14 years that he lived in the town.
Duncan was diabetic from the age of three and lost his eyesight in recent years but died recently after a battle with cancer. His family are keen to thank the neighbours, cafe and shop staff, community police officers, railway station staff and anyone else that went to his aid over the last few years. Duncan, originally from Stockport, moved to a flat in Wells Walk in Ilkley.
He spent his time writing plays and poems and drawing. He would regularly travel by train from Ilkley to Leeds and work in local cafes using the people he met as inspiration for his work.
In more recent years his eyesight deteriorated and he became a familiar figure walking through Ilkley and Leeds with a white cane, his long ponytail and a large rucksack and even a suitcase on wheels as he carried much of his work around with him.
Since learning of his recent death some staff from local shops and cafes spoke fondly about Duncan, saying how he was often cheerful and had a good sense of humour despite his failing health.
His funeral was held in Stockport on November 25.
