THE Ilkley Manor House coffee mornings will return at the end of the month.
Held on Zoom, Mike Dixon will be first on Friday, January 29 with his talk ‘Darwin in Ilkley’ from 10.30am to 11.30am
Charles Darwin came to Ilkley in 1859 to undertake hydropathic treatment at Wells House Hydro. Why did an eminent natural scientist undertake ‘water treatment’ and why at Ilkley – 220 miles from his home in Kent?
This presentation by Mike Dixon covers the critical weeks surrounding the publication of ‘Origin of Species’ in November 1859 and sheds new light on his personality and the possible nature of his enigmatic illness.
