THE A658 Harrogate Road was closed both ways this morning because of a serious accident in Apperley Bridge.

Local people are reporting that it was a fatal crash and the air ambulance was believed to have been in attendance.

Police said they received a report of a two-car collision at 5.44am today.

Emergency services attended the incident and found a Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Astra had crashed on Harrogate Road, close to the junction with Parkin Lane. The accident happened outside the Bridge Cafe.

Diversions are in place and motorists are being advised to find an alternative route this morning.

A police spokesperson said inquiries were continuing into the incident.

In a tweet at 7.36amWest Yorkshire Police said: "Police are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision in Apperley Bridge #Bradford. Road closures are in place on the A658 Harrogate Road and motorists are advised to find an alternative route this morning."
