YOUNG Wharfedale footballers are celebrating competition success.

The Pool AFC U11 Lionesses were victorious in the Harrogate Junior Girls Football League U11 Tournament on Sunday, December 8.

Their success at the event, which was held at Harrogate Town AFC’s Wetherby Road ground, earned the team their first trophy.

This is the second year that the Lionesses, who train every Saturday, have played together and their first one competing in the Harrogate League.

Coach Rob Gascoyne said: “I’m really pleased for the girls.

“They work really hard at having the most fun possible.

“Now they’ve discovered they can win trophies there’ll be no stopping them.

“Tournaments like this are great for girls’ football and we’d be delighted to have more girls coming along and join the club.”

The victorious team’s members were: Ellen Walker, Flossie Brown, Maddie Mulholland, Emily Gascoyne, Iris Bairstow, Oonagh Jackson, Sophie Ryder and Nicole Brown.

Pool AFC Juniors are keen to hear from any girls interested in learning and playing football.
