ULTRA-RUNNER Paul Tierney will talk about his record-breaking Lake District challenge at a fundraising talk in Otley next year.

Mr Tierney set the new record for reaching the summit of all 214 ‘Wainwrights’ - Alfred Wainwright’s Lake District peaks, or fells - on June 19 this year, covering the 318 miles in 6 days, 6 hours and 5 minutes.

He will describe the trials and tribulations of the challenge, which was in memory of his friend and fellow endurance athlete Chris Stirling, at Otley Methodist Church from 7pm on Friday, March 6, 2020. The evening will also include refreshments and a raffle.

Tickets cost £10 with all proceeds going to Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice. They can be booked by calling (0113) 203 3376.

Mr Tierney, a running coach based in Windermere, raised more than £18,000 for mental health charity Mind by setting the new record.

The Wainwrights are the peaks described in Alfred Wainwright’s much-loved, seven-volume Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells.
