BEN Rhydding Post Office has closed for "operational reasons".

The premises, within a convenience store in Valley Drive, are no longer available for Post Office use and a new operator and location for the business is now being sought.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “We sincerely apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure of Ben Rhydding Post Office in Ilkley.

“We understand and appreciate how much communities rely on our services. We would like to reassure customers that the decision to suspend services at any of our branches is never taken lightly. We take very seriously any decision to temporarily close a branch, and will only do so when it is warranted.

“We are working hard to restore services for the community as quickly as possible. We will be seeking alternative premises for the post office so local retailers interested in this business opportunity should contact us on 0845 266 8790 or email NTquestions@postoffice.co.uk.

“In the meantime customers can access Post Office services at any convenient branch including Ilkley Post Office, Unit 9 Station Plaza, Station Road, Ilkley, LS29 8HF.”

Following a consultation with residents in 2015, the Post Office relocated Ben Rhydding Post Office from Wheatley Lane to Premier Stores in The Parade, Valley Drive, about half a mile away. The store was renamed Best One G&S Convenience Store and the post office branch was open 90 hours a week, from 8am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 8pm, on Sundays.
