THERE’S a double treat in store for anyone who’s in Ilkley on Saturday, November 11.

The Dales Way Association (DWA), supporters of the famous long distance trail that starts in the town, have organised a walk and a talk.

Colin Speakman, local writer and countryside campaigner who created the Dales Way nearly 50 years ago will lead the walk around Ilkley.

"It’s a chance to explore some of the fascinating highways and byways of our beautiful town," said Colin.

Everyone is welcome. Meet at the railway station at 10.30am and come suitably wrapped up for a leisurely two and a half hour walk with a couple of climbs up to higher ground.

In the afternoon the DWA will welcome a special guest to their Annual General Meeting. Alan Hulme, Head of Park Management for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, will give a short illustrated talk called A Walk in the Park.

DWA Secretary Chris Grogan said: "We work very closely with the National Park and they're very supportive of the Dales Way. Alan is a very entertaining speaker and we're really looking forward to his talk."

Alan’s talk will start at 2pm upstairs in the Flying Duck, Ilkley and will last around an hour. Again, everyone is welcome, not just DWA members.

Details of the walk and the talk can be found on the DWA website at www.dalesway.org
