ONE of the most recent Guide meetings in Rombald’s District saw 40 girls gather the ingredients for making of a Christmas cake. Forty cakes were baked and are awaiting the icing session.
Ann Peacock, of Girlguiding Wharfedale said: “It is amazing that this was achieved but I am not surprised. This particular unit has made Christmas cakes for more than 20 years and mixing them individually whilst watching each other via Zoom created quite a ‘stir’. Not being able to meet in the Ben Rhydding HQ was no barrier. If you were a Guide 60 years ago you would have learned that ‘A guide smiles and sings under all difficulties’. Whilst that is not learned by rote any more the premise still holds and that is certainly what girls and leaders have been doing for the past eight months.” She further acknowledged “the love and commitment displayed by volunteers who give their all to enrich the experiences of young people”.
