MENTAL health is the focus of a Horsforth girl’s bid to become the next Children’s Mayor of Leeds.
Laila Gibson has made it into the final 12 who are in the running to be elected to the role. The ten year old, who studies at Ireland Wood Primary School, has built her manifesto around the need to help young people with their mental health.
In it, she says: “If I were Children’s Mayor I would like to achieve a scheme to inform and support young people about their mental health and wellbeing. I would like all young children to be aware of their mental health and to know where to seek support if needed.
“I would like all areas of Leeds to have activities and sessions that are easily accessible. I would ensure all schools have links available on their website with mental health support in Leeds.”
