OTLEY students have been visited by a champion boxer.
Qais Ashfaq, who attended Prince Henry’s Grammar School from 2004 to 2009, was back at his alma mater last week to give a talk. Qais is an Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medallist who recently won the WBA Continental Champion’s belt.
He is one of a number of alumni - dubbed Prince Henry’s People - who have been invited to take part in a campaign to inspire current students. During his visit Qais spoke to GCSE PE students and Year 12 BTEC Sport students, including amateur boxer Jonas Lord.
Jonas said: “It was very inspiring to meet a former student who has made it so far and a great opportunity to have my questions answered by somebody so experienced.” Deputy Head of PE Dean Hyam, who taught Qais, said: “It was brilliant to have Qais come in, especially at such an unsettling time for the students.”
