THE MAYOR of Otley has congratulated the town’s latest centenarian.
Peggy Raftery marked her 100th birthday with a party at Otley Leg Club’s meeting, at the Otley Old People’s Welfare Centre, on Wednesday, October 16.
Otley Action for Older People volunteers helped organise the celebrations and made bunting, baked a special cake and bought Peggy some gifts.
She also received a surprise visit from Otley Town Mayor Councillor Peter Jackson.
He said: “I had the pleasure of attending Peggy’s 100th birthday celebration. It was my pleasure to present her with a bouquet of flowers and card from myself and a gift from the Town Council.
“A remarkable lady who talked to me about her family, her childhood years and her time working as a nurse.
“The event was attended by a lot of friends and family congratulating her on reaching this milestone.
“I wish her all the best for many more years.”
