AIREBOROUGH ROTARY CLUB:Keeping the Club active and informed has meant utilising Skype initially for a board meeting before graduating to Skype to ensure fortnightly club meetings will be run. Transforming the 'We’re for Community' byline into action has involved club members and their wives as well as Aireborough Inner Wheel and friends in utilising a range of skills. The first call for help came via a request to supply drawstring scrub bags so NHS staff could avoid cross contamination by putting bags containing uniforms straight into the washer. An initial batch of 58 bags was shared between Menston Ambulance Station and Ward 28 at St James Hospital. Club member Geoff Bartrum, an emergency care assistant for Yorkshire Ambulance Service received a striking unique prototype featuring Batman. Visor headbands, ear savers preventing ear soreness and scrubs are also being regularly produced by group members. The Club is also providing financial support for materials and postage to a Friend of Rotary using a 3D printer to produce items of PPE equipment being dispatched to NHS Trusts all over the country. This week’s board meeting added to the initial gift to Radio Aire’s plea for funds for children in deprived families to cover meals during school shutdown times by agreeing donations to local charities OPAL (Older People’s Action in the Locality), AVSED (Aireborough Voluntary Services to the Elderly), the Horsforth Community Shed project, the Horsforth Community Hub, JOY (Jubilee Outreach Yorkshire) and Otley Action for Older People. The Leeds Group of Rotary Clubs, Aireborough included, also decided to forward a District donation to two charities of their choice, Martin House Hospice and Leeds Women’s Aid. Ending the week on a high, Janet Kerr’s call for toys for families currently being supported by Aireborough Children’s Centre resulted in a carload of surprises being delivered to the centre on Monday. Ten children already receive a monthly book from the Dolly Parton Imagination Library through a district grant the Aireborough Club organised. .
