Airedale Writers’ Circle has launched its adult open writing competition.
Anyone aged 14 and over can take part. Entries are invited in three categories – short stories (maximum 2,000 words), poems of up to 40 lines and articles up to 1,000 words.
Submissions can be on any theme but must not have been published, broadcast on radio or performed on television or stage, and must be the original work of the entrant.
Each category winner will receive £50, and the Challenge Cup will be awarded to the best overall entry from a Writers’ Circle member.
There’s no limit to the number of submissions, with a £3.50 fee for the first and £2.50 for subsequent ones. Closing date is September 11. Judging will be by novelist Kate Walker.
Winners will be announced at the Airedale Writers’ Circle Christmas party on December 11. Entry forms are available from Keighley, Skipton, Bingley, Shipley and Ilkley libraries; from Lesley Horton, 15 Manor Road, Utley, Keighley BD20 6ET (call 01535 607946) or can be downloaded from airedalewriters.btck.co.uk/competitions
